For Memorial Day weekend we headed to New York City for the annual Fleet Week. We rented a hotel on Staten Island and our first stop was to visit the USS New York. Josiah wanted to see this ship the most because he had read about it and knew it was made from the steel from Ground Zero. The kids had a ball climbing on the the tanks and trucks and sitting in the helicopters and holding the guns. Saturday we took the Staten Island Ferry over to Manhatten and did some exploring of the city. We hit Chinatown, Grand Central Station, Fao Schwartz, Central Park, and had lunch in Little Italy. I think the kids favorites were the toy store and riding the subway! Sunday we checked out of the hotel and headed to Liberty State Park to catch the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I found Ellis Island to be extremely interesting. While the kids liked it they weren't interested in staying quite as long as Kevin and I could have. It was a great trip, one we would love to do again. So much to see we couldn't do it all in one trip.
I am a stay at home, homeschooling mom to 3 crazy kids, and wife to a husband who puts up with us all. We have a 120 year old farmhouse we are sure will take just as long to renovate, a one acre garden and too many animals! I am trying to live a slower, simpler life without being dependant on material things, and teach my children to live in a manner that is pleasing to God. Our adventure is challenging but rewarding, and I wouldn't change it a bit.
